Having now fallen below .500, the Washington Nationals have decided that it is time to take action.
On Wednesday, the Nationals lost to the Boston Red Sox by the final of 3-0. It was their fifth consecutive loss, dropping them to 42-43 on the year.
Chelsea James of the Washington Post reported that the team’s veterans called a players-only meeting after the game, no manager or coaches present. Janes also adds that righty Max Scherzer delivered the “keynote address.”
While Washington is now a full seven games behind the Atlanta Braves for the NL East division lead, they are still somewhat within striking distance of the second Wild Card spot (currently 5.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies).
One of their stars did sound upbeat despite their skid, but the Nats need to get their act together or else risk missing the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
