Nationals sign reliever Greg Holland
The Washington Nationals have battled their way back to three games over .500 and are still fighting for a playoff spot, and they’re hoping the addition of a veteran reliever can help get them closer to the postseason.
On Tuesday, the Nationals announced that they have signed right-hander Greg Holland.

Holland was waived by the St. Louis Cardinals after a disastrous 32 appearances with the team. He has a 7.92 ERA in 25 innings pitched, and the Nationals are hoping he can regain his previous form.
Washington was in need of bullpen depth after trading Brandon Kintzler and releasing Shawn Kelly a week ago following a bizarre on-field incident. Holland, who had 46 saves in 2013 and 47 in 2014 with the Kansas City Royals, should give the Nationals a low-risk, high-reward option.
