Oops! Cubs mistakenly gave Steve Cishek prescription sunglasses

Steve Cishek

As if putting relief pitcher Steve Cishek in the outfield wasn’t already odd enough, an honest mistake made his situation even tougher.

Cishek’s Chicago Cubs lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 1-0 on Wednesday. One of the talking points afterward was Cubs manager Joe Maddon using four left fielders during the eighth inning. Ceshek was among those to man the position after starting the inning on the mound.

Maddon brought in Brian Duensing to face Eric Thames. Instead of removing Cishek from the game, Maddon moved Cishek to left field. Cishek, of course, is not familiar with playing in the field and found the task more difficult because he was accidentally given prescription sunglasses.

Cishek returned to the mound after Duensing struck out Thames. Duensing replaced Cishek in left field.

Joe Maddon has know to use unorthodox strategies in the past. He may have outdone himself on Wednesday, especially with the sunglasses challenge.
