Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde has become the third managerial casualty of the 2025 season.
The Orioles confirmed Saturday that Hyde has been fired after the team’s 15-28 start. The move comes despite the fact that the Orioles have made two consecutive playoff appearances.
Field coordinator Tim Cossins was also relieved of his duties, and the team announced that third base coach Tony Mansolino will take over as the Orioles’ interim manager.

Hyde was in his seventh season as the club’s manager. He oversaw a difficult period of rebuilding, but the Orioles appeared to have turned the corner under his guidance. The team won 101 games and an AL East title in 2023, and won 91 more with an AL Wild Card bid last year. On both occasions, however, the team failed to win a playoff series.
Hyde was 421-492 as Orioles manager, including this year’s 15-28 start. He won AL Manager of the Year honors in 2023. There were some questions about his job security after those early playoff exits, but at that time, there was no thought of firing him.
The Orioles have struggled on all fronts this year, with their underwhelming offense the biggest surprise. One could certainly argue the team was not set up well for 2025, as star players Anthony Santander and Corbin Burnes both left in free agency. Burnes, in particular, simply was not adequately replaced, but Hyde is ultimately the one who will take the fall for the team’s performance.
