Player who was Clayton Kershaw’s 3,000th strikeout victim gets bad news

Chicago White Sox infielder Vinny Capra found himself forever etched in Major League Baseball history this week, but not for the reason he’d prefer.

In the sixth inning on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Capra fell victim to pitcher Clayton Kershaw, who froze the White Sox slugger for strikeout No. 3,000 in his career.

Kershaw became just the 20th pitcher in Big League history to record 3,000-plus strikeouts, while Capra ended up a footnote. But that was just the start of his rough week.

On Friday, the White Sox announced that top-5 prospect Colson Montgomery was being promoted from Triple-A. To make room for the short stop, Capra was designated for assignment.

Capra batted .190/.205/.238 with two doubles, two RBI, one stolen base, and 10 strikeouts in 46 plate appearances for Chicago over 23 games after he was claimed off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers in May.

Baseball, like life, comes at you fast, and the 28-year-old Capra now has to patiently await his fate while stewing on his historic strikeout.
