Rhys Hoskins reportedly drawing interest from AL contender
Rhys Hoskins is looking for a new team now that the Philadelphia Phillies are moving on from him, and he may find it on the West Coast.
The Seattle Mariners have shown interest in Hoskins, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. Morosi noted that the Mariners may have a geographic advantage, as Hoskins was born in Sacramento, Ca.
Hoskins is hunting for a new team after the Phillies made it clear they would be moving Bryce Harper to first base permanently, effectively leaving Hoskins without a role. He missed the entire 2023 season after tearing his ACL during spring training, but hit 30 home runs for Philadelphia in 2022, making him a potentially appealing option for teams in need of some extra power.
The Mariners would certainly qualify in that department. Hoskins could DH or split time with regular first baseman Ty France. Their need for power is even more acute after a cost-cutting trade they made earlier in the offseason.
