Rhys Hoskins embarrassingly pimps foul ball during loss

Rhys Hoskins made Rhys Hoskins look very foolish during Thursday’s game.

In the seventh inning against the New York Mets on Thursday, the Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins was up at the plate with a runner on first and nobody out. With the score tied 1-1 at Citi Field in New York, N.Y., Hoskins turned on a 1-1 offering from New York’s David Peterson and hooked it down the line in left field.

Hoskins clearly thought that he had hit a home run, dramatically dropping his bat and watching the ball sail off into space. Unfortunately for Hoskins though, that space was on the outside of the foul pole, meaning that it was just a loud foul ball for strike 2.

To make matters even more humiliating, Hoskins proceeded to ground into a momentum-killing double play four pitches later. Here is the video of the foul-ball pimp job by Hoskins.

That would have been a big home run by Hoskins. But he missed it by just a few inches as the Brewers went on to lose the game to the Mets by a final score of 3-2 (creating a triple whammy of sorts for Hoskins).

The 32-year-old Hoskins is having an O.K. season for Milwaukee, batting .242 with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs through 80 games. But Hoskins’ haters were probably plenty happy about that sequence, including St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Willson Contreras (who ripped Hoskins in a profane rant earlier this year).
