Rick Porcello continues no-hit bid despite rain delay
A rain delay during Thursday night’s Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees game did not prevent Rick Porcello from attempting to complete a no-hitter.
Porcello had thrown five innings of no-hit ball on just 60 pitches when the game was delayed after five completed innings. The game was in a rain delay for around 45 minutes. The Red Sox decided to let Porcello continue pitching when the game resumed. He recorded a groundout and two strikeouts in the top of the sixth inning to keep the no-hitter going.
Porcello entered the game 2-0 on the season with a 2.04 ERA. He had thrown 89 and 94 pitches in his first two outings. Thursday marked his longest career no-hit bid.
