The San Diego Padres are in the market for a new manager and are looking into Ron Washington as a candidate, according to a report.
MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported on Monday night that the Padres have looked into Washington as a candidate. Heyman notes that Padres GM AJ Preller was a member of the Texas Rangers’ front office when Washington served as the AL West club’s manager.
Padres have done some due diligence on Ron Washington. Not sure how high he is on their list but GM AJ Preller was in Texas when Wash managed there, and while they are considering less experienced folks (Kotsay, Loretta), folks believe they are putting a premium on experience.

Mark Kotsay and Mark Loretta are other candidates mentioned by Heyman. The Padres were believed to have interest in Joe Maddon too, but he may be headed for a reunion with the Angels.
In September, the Padres fired Andy Green, who never won more than 71 games in a season over his four years as the team’s manager.
