The Savannah Bananas have certainly been keeping up with the viral lore this week.
Over the weekend, the Bananas, the popular traveling exhibition team, produced a hilarious reaction of the incident involving the Philadelphia Phillies “Karen.” The incident, which occurred on Friday night during a Phillies-Marlins game in Miami, saw a woman in the stands missing out on a home run ball and angrily storming after the man who had scooped it up and given it to his son. The woman demanded the ball “back,” and the man eventually let her have it (with the Internet having since dubbed her a “Karen”). You can see the now-infamous video here.
During a two-game set at Petco Park in San Diego, Calif. this weekend, the Bananas submitted their own fantastic rendition of “Karengate.” A skit aired on the JumboTron showing a man dressed up in a “Man-Nana” outfit coming away with a ball that was thrown into the stands by a Bananas outfielder. The man then gave it to his “son” (who was just another grown man in a “Man-Nana” outfit) and gave him a hug in the style of the original viral video.
But their peace was soon shattered when someone in a Grinch outfit came up to them and demanded to have the ball. Eventually, they ended up giving the ball to The Grinch as the “son” looked sadly at his now-empty glove.

That is actually not too far off from how the original incident went down, complete with the boos from all of the surrounding fans. Viral video even emerged of the actual Phillies “Karen” flipping off the crowd after getting pelted with jeers for taking the ball.
There was at least a happy ending for the real boy in the original incident as he received some great goodies from both the Phillies and the Marlins in response. Meanwhile, the boy’s father has since spoken out about the whole episode in an interview.
