The Philadelphia Phillies game “Karen” apparently doubled and tripled down after taking a home run ball away from a young fan on Friday night.
A crazed woman in a Phillies jersey went viral for all the wrong reasons during Philadelphia’s game against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park in Miami, Fla. In the top of the fourth inning, Phillies outfielder Harrison Bader smacked a home run to left field to give the team a 5-1 lead.
The home run ball was scooped up by a man in a red Phillies jersey, who immediately handed it to his young son in a heartwarming moment … well, heartwarming at least until the woman got involved in things. Viral video showed the woman storming after the man and demanding that he “return” the ball to her. Despite having been quicker to the ball than the woman, who never actually secured it, the man gave the ball to the woman and waved her away.
You can see the clip of the full incident here.
On Saturday, a new video shot from the stands emerged showing the “Karen” lashing out at other fans that were booing her for taking the ball. The clip showed the woman standing up to confront a different fan in a Philadelphia Eagles jersey who was saying something to her from another section. She then returned to her seat to more booing and jeering from other fans in the stadium and proceeded to get defiant.
The “Karen” then raised the ball in the air in faux triumph before waving her middle finger around while still gripping the ball. Check out the video at the link here.
Ultimately, there was a very happy ending for the boy, who was at the park celebrating his birthday. A Marlins staffer hooked the boy up with a goodie bag during the game in response to the incident and then Bader himself (who hit the home run) met up afterwards with the boy and his family, presenting a gift of an autographed bat.
As for the woman, she may have gotten the ball in the end. But it certainly came at a significant cost for her as she is now officially the Internet’s No. 1 enemy.
