Shohei Ohtani pulls a classy move with NLCS MVP trophy

Shohei Ohtani is once again showing off his humility.

The Los Angeles Dodgers star Ohtani went viral this week over the classy gesture that he pulled with his NLCS MVP trophy. Dodgers writer Blake Williams shared that Ohtani’s trophy was currently on display in the team clubhouse. But the trophy now features a “Team Effort” sign covering up the MVP engraving instead.

Ohtani was named MVP of the team’s NLCS series against the Milwaukee Brewers after producing one of the greatest playoff games in MLB history during the Game 4 clincher. The 31-year-old sensation homered three times from the plate and also struck out 10 batters from the hill, even sending his Dodgers teammates into total disbelief with the performance.

That said, Ohtani struggled through the first three games of the NLCS. He hit .182 over his 14 plate appearances in Games 1-3 and was lifted during that stretch by many of his teammates instead.

In particular, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Tyler Glasnow all twirled gems during their respective pitching starts for the Dodgers. Meanwhile, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernandez, and Max Muncy also provided crucial home runs over that span as well.

Any one of those guys may have had a strong case for NLCS MVP themselves. But with Ohtani ultimately taking home the honors on the strength of his historic Game 4 masterpiece, he is responding with grace and class (as have been Ohtani’s trademarks for many years now).
