Whit Merrifield would be one of the more in-demand players in baseball at this year’s trade deadline, but the Kansas City Royals’ asking price is reportedly proving prohibitive.
According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, teams have turned their attention to Toronto’s Eric Sogard and Texas’ Danny Santana, with teams simply unwilling to give the Royals what they want for Merrifield.

Merrifield is signed through 2023 and the Royals would have to be overwhelmed to move him despite the fact that the rest of the roster is on sale. He’s immensely valuable and a very popular player among the fanbase and his teammates, and the organization clearly feels it just isn’t worth it.
