Terry Francona offers encouraging update on Carlos Carrasco
The Cleveland Indians were shocked and shaken when starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco was diagnosed with leukemia this season, but the team got an excellent update on him Monday.
Manager Terry Francona stated that Carrasco is feeling good enough to throw bullpen sessions as soon as this week.

There’s no tentative return date, but that’s of secondary importance given the significance of Carrasco’s diagnosis. The fact that he’s prepared to start baseball activities again is a great sign in itself.
As far as the Indians’ playoff chase goes, it’s not clear if Carrasco can be counted on to contribute anything else this season. However, they should get some help from an injured starter before the season is over.
