Texas Rangers GM Jon Daniels made it clear that his team is unlikely to sign Yu Darvish this offseason.
Appearing on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM Friday, Daniels said it’s “very unlikely we’re going to bring in one of the upper-end pitchers at this point.”

Daniels still has a good relationship with Darvish due to the pitcher’s previous tenure with the Rangers, but business-wise, it doesn’t make sense for Texas to sign him. They just traded him away to the Dodgers last season and seem to be in transition mode.
The Rangers were included on the list of teams in which Darvish maintained interest, but they always seemed like a longshot. Instead, the six teams still in contention for his services appear to be the Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, Astros, Twins and Brewers.
Darvish reportedly is waiting to see if the Yankees or Dodgers can clear more space for him.
