Report: Yankees facing competition from several teams for Dallas Keuchel

Dallas Keuchel

The New York Yankees have consistently been mentioned as the favorite to sign Dallas Keuchel since the left-hander became an unrestricted free agent earlier this week, but there are apparently several teams that are trying to stop that from happening.

SNY’s Andy Martino reports that the Yankees are facing “late competition” from the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins, all of who also have interest in signing Keuchel. The Yankees are still considered the front-runner, but a bidding war could change that. Martino notes that New York had little to no interest in Keuchel during the offseason, which could indicate they are only looking to sign him at a heavily discounted rate.

The Yankees recently got a positive update from ace Luis Severino, who has not pitched this season because of a shoulder injury. Keuchel would provide them with some nice depth in their rotation, but they may be less desperate to add him if Severino is going to return sooner than expected.
