Yoenis Cespedes reportedly has $90 million offer from Orioles

Yoenis Cespedes Mets

Yoenis Cespedes has some serious thinking to do about his future now that the Baltimore Orioles have come forward with a compelling offer.

According to multiple reporters, the Orioles have offered Cespedes a 5-year, $90 million deal. The contract reportedly has an option for a sixth year. MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez also says Cespedes has a one-year offer from the Mets he is weighing.

Cespedes may believe that it’s best to sign a one-year deal and become a free agent after next season, when the market might be better. Currently teams have multiple options to add bats — Jason Heyward, Alex Gordon and Justin Upton have also been available, in addition to Chris Davis — and some big money was spent on pitchers like David Price and Zack Greinke. On the other hand, it would be tough for Cespedes to improve his stock after he posted a career high 35 home runs, 105 RBIs and .870 OPS last season.

Ultimately, $90 million is a lot of money to turn down no matter the circumstance.
