Tommy Pham was involved in a confrontation at home plate during Sunday’s game between his Chicago White Sox and the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the veteran outfielder says he was prepared to trade blows if it came to that.

The White Sox were trailing 4-3 in the 8th inning when Pham tried to tag up and score on a shallow fly ball to left field. Pham was thrown out for an inning-ending double play, and Brewers catcher William Contreras and reliever Enoli Paredes were very animated with their celebration.

Pham became upset and started jawing at the Brewers. He had to be restrained by home plate umpire Edwin Jimenez and pushed away by some teammates. You can see the video here.

Pham was asked about the incident in the clubhouse after the game. He called the Brewers players “tough guys” and said the reason he trains with fighting in the offseason is so he can be “prepared to f— someone up.”

“I’m nailed out at home by a mile,” Pham said. “I’m going to the dugout and I hear the tough guys with all the hoo-rah s—. I’ll never start anything, but I’m prepared to finish it. There’s a reason why I do all kinds of fighting in the offseason, because I’m prepared to f— somebody up. So, you can take it as what it is.”

Beware that the video contains cursing:

Milwaukee added two more runs in the bottom of the 8th to extend their lead to 6-3, which was the final score.

The White Sox have now lost 11 in a row, so they can only hope the Pham incident provides them with some sort of spark. One of the team’s television announcers was certainly furious over what happened.
