White Sox announcer was so heated at Brewers after plate collision

Tommy Pham pushed

Things got a bit heated at the end of Sunday’s game between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox, and that even extended to one of the announcers.

White Sox outfielder Tommy Pham was thrown out at the plate as the tying run to end the top of the eighth inning, and the play at the plate involved a minor collision with Milwaukee catcher William Contreras. Contreras and Pham exchanged some words as they left the field, which was enough to get White Sox announcer John Schriffen really into it.

“He’s not backing down! He doesn’t like that!” Schriffen said of Pham. “Nah, we ain’t taking that. We ain’t taking that from the Brewers. I don’t care how many Ls we’ve got this year. We ain’t taking that.”

It is certainly possible that Schriffen was just giving voice to what he thought Pham was trying to convey. On the other hand, he also may have just gotten really into it, especially since the crowd got riled up and the benches threatened to clear. It’s not like the White Sox have provided a lot of exciting moments for him to work with in 2024.

The White Sox wound up allowing two more runs in the eighth and lost 6-3, but at least Schriffen got to get hyped for a little bit.
