AJ Dybantsa is ready for his one-on-one against Luka Doncic.
The Washington Wizards rookie phenom Dybantsa appeared this week on the “Road Trippin'” podcast with Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson, and Allie Clifton. During the episode, Dybantsa got asked who was the one player that he was looking forward to facing in the NBA.
Dybantsa replied that he wanted to face the Los Angeles Lakers star Doncic. The 19-year-old forward also proceeded to take a swipe at Doncic over Doncic’s perceived lack of foot speed.
“I just want to be on like an ISO [isolation] island [with him],” said Dybantsa of Doncic. “This sounds crazy, but I want to be on an ISO island and just really see if he’s moving that slow.”
Indeed, the six-time All-Star Doncic, 27, is far from the quickest player on the court. But he more than makes up for it with a masterful cocktail of dribble moves, deception, and body control, making Doncic perhaps the single most feared defensive cover in the entire league.
You have to admire the confidence from the No. 1 overall pick Dybantsa in wanting to test out his abilities against the best. But he should be careful here since Doncic has already made a career out of humiliating young opponents who talk smack.
