Amar’e Stoudemire’s brother dies in a car crash

On a day where people are either celebrating a Giants victory or mourning a Patriots loss, Amar’e Stoudemire and his family suffered a horrible loss that reminds us there are more important things in life than a game.  According to TMZ.com, Stoudemire’s brother Hazell Stoudemire died early Monday morning in a car crash in Florida.

The accident happened on Route 27 in Lake Wales. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Stoudemire was driving at a “high rate of speed” when he collided with the rear of a tractor trailer.

He died on the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 35-year-old Stoudemire was not wearing a seat belt when he smashed into the big rig … and they are unsure if alcohol was a factor.

Details of the story are still forthcoming, but it is assumed that Stoudemire will be taking time off from the Knicks to deal with the tragedy.  Our thoughts are with Amar’e and his family during what is sure to be an incredibly difficult time.
