Ben Simmons received some additional discipline from the NBA for his shot to Kyle Lowry’s groin on Thursday night.
Early in the second quarter of Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals between his Philadelphia 76ers and the Toronto Raptors, Simmons elbowed Lowry in the groin. There was no stoppage in play nor a flagrant foul given as the officials likely missed the move. A day later, things have changed.
The NBA fined Simmons $20,000 for the move and assessed him a flagrant 1 foul for unnecessary contact.
Simmons probably does not mind the fine and flagrant 1 foul considering his Sixers won 116-95. Being up 2-1 in the series probably outweighs any concerns he might have felt from the discipline.
Simmons is averaging 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game this postseason.
