One of the BIG3 co-founders believes Caitlin Clark’s agents withheld the lucrative offer the league made to the former Iowa star.
BIG3 CEO Jeff Kwatinetz wrote an opinion piece that was published by OutKick on Wednesday. In the piece, Kwatinetz revealed details of the offer the BIG3 basketball league made to Clark.
He says the BIG3’s offer to Clark included $10 million over two years, a percentage of team ownership, a 50 percent revenue share on merchandise containing her name and likeness, and ownership of a BIG3 documentary with a seven-figure advance.
Additionally, their offer would have allowed Clark to play for the WNBA.
But Kwatinetz believes he has evidence that Clark’s agents never even shared the offer with her.
“I found out about the Big3 thing the same exact time you all did,” Clark was quoted as saying last month. “I honestly don’t talk about those things with really anybody. I have other people that deal with it, and they haven’t said a word to me about it. My main focus is on this team and helping us find a way to beat Colorado and hopefully win another one after that.”
Kwatinetz pointed out in his piece that the NBA is being investigated by the Department of Justice for potential antitrust violations. He may feel that Clark’s admission that she was never presented with the BIG3’s offer could be evidence that there is anti-competitive behavior involving the NBA/WNBA toward the BIG3.
Clark will earn under $100,000 for each season of her four-year contract with the WNBA’s Indiana Fever. She will receive much more money through her endorsement deals.
