Chicago Bulls fans felt something was missing after Caleb Wilson rocked the rim Monday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
Wilson struggled through the first 35 minutes of play in his second NBA Summer League game against the Utah Jazz, who sat out Darryn Peterson on the second night of a back-to-back. The Bulls’ No. 4 overall pick missed 8 of his first 12 shots near the midway point of the fourth quarter, before taking his frustrations out on the hoop.
The North Carolina product used a wicked first step to blow by his man on the left wing and rise up for a poster jam. He extended his limbs long enough to resemble Michael Jordan during the climax of “Space Jam.”

Announcer Drew Carter had a decent call on Wilson’s highlight stuff. But fans couldn’t help but imagine how the late Stacey King would have reacted to the play.
Can’t even begin to think what Stacey’s call would have been here. Get out the poster machine

Wilson scored 12 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter. While he still finished with 8 rebounds and 5 blocks, the Bulls rookie missed all 6 of his attempts from the free throw line. Those misses cost Chicago 13 points, given the unique free throw rules during NBA Summer League play.
King, a longtime Bulls announcer, died last month after a fall at his home. He was a fan favorite in Chicago for his infectious enthusiasm whenever he was on the mic, which colored some of the most memorable moments in recent Bulls memory.
Wilson is a highlight waiting to happen — exactly the type of player that would have brought the best out of King. It’s no surprise Bulls fans are already mourning King’s calls for Wilson that will never come.
