D'Angelo Russell

D’Angelo Russell is going viral for a video that doesn’t have anything to do with Nick Young this time.

The Minnesota Timberwolves guard was featured in a clip that made the rounds on Twitter this week. The clip was from a recent Minnesota game against the New Orleans Pelicans. During one transition sequence, Russell yelled out, “Can he shoot?” as Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado brought the ball up the floor. Alvarado hilariously replied, “Yes, I can shoot,” and the video then cut to a shot of Alvarado hitting a three-pointer.

Russell had a funny reaction to the video after it went viral. “No disrespect just wanted to know!” he tweeted on Saturday.

The Timberwolves and the Pelicans last played on Jan. 11, so the moment is from at least a few weeks ago. But that does not make it any less amusing.

In fairness to Russell, Alvarado is an undrafted rookie who largely came out of nowhere this season to provide New Orleans with some quality minutes off the bench. But Alvarado is shooting 31.8 percent from deep on the year overall, so there is still no definitive answer to the question, “Can he shoot?” Regardless, Alvarado is quickly becoming a cult hero of sorts, and that funny moment with Russell is another reminder of why Alvarado is so well-liked.
