Danny Green is waiting on Kawhi Leonard before deciding where he will sign in free agency, but he’s not trying to bother his longtime teammate in the process.
Green told Yahoo Sports Canada that he has been mostly trying to leave Leonard alone.
“I try to leave him alone because I already know the hectic process and everybody is probably blowing his phone up,” Green told Yahoo Sports Canada. “So if I do communicate with him, it’s through his camp. I don’t want to blow his phone up.”
Green and Leonard are not officially a package deal, but Green is believed to be waiting on Leonard’s decision. If Kawhi decides to return to the Toronto Raptors, Green would probably re-sign with them. If Leonard chooses the Lakers and signs for the maximum, Green would have to take a pay cut but might be willing to sign for the room exception. The LA Clippers are also in the mix for Leonard and would have money for Green too, while the Mavericks have had interest in the 3-and-D specialist.
Green has said that his No. 1 focus in free agency is to play with a winner and contend. He spent eight seasons with the Spurs, winning a championship along with Leonard, and was traded to Toronto with Kawhi last summer. The two have won two championships together.
