Darren Collison still not ruling out eventual NBA return

Darren Collison

Despite teasing a return to the NBA over the winter and failing to deliver, Darren Collison refuses to close the door on an eventual comeback.

In a feature by Brett Dawson of The Athletic that ran on Friday, the veteran point guard spoke on the work that he has done with high school basketball star Devin Askew as well as his hunger to return to the game.

“I miss playing,” said Collison, while adding that he was not ruling out a comeback someday. Collison did also say though that he is mostly content with his decision to retire and that seeing nightly playoff games on TV, which is not currently possible due to COVID-19, might have weighed on him more.

Collison, who is still only 32 years old, surprisingly announced his retirement last summer, citing a desire to focus on his faith. He remained a difference maker during his most recent NBA season with the Indiana Pacers, posting 11.2 points and 6.0 assists per game in 76 starts.

The former UCLA star flirted with the possibility of a return around the time of the trade deadline last February but ultimately decided to remain retired. Collison did pique the interest of a number of top NBA contenders, and those same contenders might still be interested if he ever decides to come back.
