Draymond Green addresses situation with Kevin Durant

The heated exchange Draymond Green had with Kevin Durant during Monday night’s game has spiraled into one of the biggest stories of the NBA season, and Green has finally addressed his role in it.

Green told reporters on Thursday that he has spoken with Durant about the situation and the two are “moving forward.” He stopped short of issuing an apology or saying he is on good terms with his star teammate, but he admitted his emotions got the best of him.

“Kevin and I spoke,” Green said. “We’re moving forward. I think it’s no secret that I’m an emotional player. I wear my emotions on my sleeve and play with that same emotion. Sometimes they get the best of me and it doesn’t work to my favor.”

Green also addressed the reports that claim he called Durant out about letting his impending free agency become a distraction for the team.

“Whatever Kevin decides to do, whatever Klay (Thompson) decides to do, whatever who decides to do, we had great years together,” Green said, “I’ll support everybody wholeheartedly, 100 percent. As a human being, as a man, you have a right to do what you want with your life. I would never question that.”

At the end of his lengthy statement, Green said the drama from this week will only make the Warriors stronger and that they are not going to beat themselves.

Green’s statement was a bit more comforting for Warriors fans than what Durant had to say about the incident earlier this week, and it’s no surprise Green is doing what he can to make the feud go away. Even if Durant is likely to leave in free agency after the season, the Warriors are the overwhelming favorites to win a third consecutive title with him. In-fighting will only decrease the team’s chances of accomplishing that feat.
