The New York Knicks will be facing the Washington Wizards for a game in London later this month, but Enes Kanter will not be making the trip.
Kanter told reporters after the Knicks’ 119-112 win over the Lakers on Friday night that he wouldn’t make the trip overseas. Kanter says he legitimately would fear for his life if he were to travel to London because of political issues. He says Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, is essentially a dictator who could have him killed by spies.

Kanter’s political problems have been front-and-center in the past. He’s had his passport cancelled while traveling, been disowned by his family for his political views, and he’s said his father was arrested by Erdogan.
Many people feel like they have a lot of problems and struggles in their lives, but that seems like very little compared to what Kanter deals with.
