Ja Morant was apparently the latest big-name sports star to get hit by burglars.
Jody Callahan of Daily Memphian reported on Thursday that the Memphis Grizzlies star Morant had his home in Shelby County, Tenn. burglarized on Dec. 19, 2024. The Grizzlies played a game in Memphis that day against the Golden State Warriors, winning 114-93.
Callahan adds that a federal complaint unsealed this week said that the burglars stole jewelry, watches, and luxury bags from Morant’s residence. The total worth of the stolen property is being valued at around $1 million.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office provided few other details, only confirming that an investigation was active into “a reported burglary at the home of a Memphis Grizzlies player.” But we do know that many other high-profile athletes have been hit by home burglars over the last several months as part of a suspected string of related crimes.
A recent break-in at the home of Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow unearthed an apparent connection to a South American crime syndicate after the alleged burglars committed an incredibly boneheaded move. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are among the other NFL players whose houses have been burglarized in recent months, and even some well-known NBA players have been victimized as well.
The two-time All-Star Morant, 25, is averaging 20.7 points and 7.4 assists per game for the 36-18 Grizzlies this season. He has recently been the subject of reports claiming that Memphis could trade him in the summer and now apparently has another headache to deal with in the form of an expensive home burglary.
