James Harden offers honest take on chasing Steph Curry’s record

James Harden at the free-throw line

James Harden accomplished an impressive feat on Sunday night when he moved past Ray Allen for second on the NBA’s all-time three-pointers made list, but the Los Angeles Clippers star has a very realistic outlook on his chances of moving even higher.

Harden made two three-pointers in the Clippers’ 116-105 win over the Utah Jazz at Inuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. He has now made 2,975 three-pointers in his career, which puts him two ahead of Allen. Harden was still 807 three-pointers behind Curry as of Monday, however.

Even if Curry were retired, Harden still would not catch the Golden State Warriors star. He’s well aware of that.

“I’m one of the most confident guys that we have in this league, but nah I probably won’t catch Steph,” Harden said. “I don’t think anybody will, honestly. … He can shoot the s– out the ball.”

There was talk years ago that Allen might try to stick around and hold Curry off, but that would have been hopeless. As Harden noted, the modern game perfectly suits Curry’s style of play. Curry has even been credited for helping to create it.

Someone might come along and break Curry’s record eventually, but it is not in danger of falling anytime soon. For now, the best Harden can hope for is that he clings to the No. 2 spot.
