Jimmer Fredette is a free agent now, Greek team says

Jimmer Fredette

Jimmer Fredette will be looking for a new team.

Fredette signed a 2-year deal with Greek league team Panathinaikos last year. However, his contract has been cut short by a year, making him a free agent.

“He is informed that he is free to go, his agent also knows this and he is on the market for a new team. We are waiting for any new development,” team president Takis Triantopoulos said on Friday, via EuroHoops.net.

Panathinaikos is unable to afford Fredette due to financial difficulties related to the coronavirus. The team is also looking for a new owner.

Fredette was a star in college at BYU and was taken No. 11 overall in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft. He began his career with the Sacramento Kings and has played for the Bulls, Pelicans and Knicks. Prior to his Greek stint, Fredette spent three seasons in China playing for the Shanghai Sharks before catching on with the Suns for six games.

Though his first season in Greece was cut short, Fredette’s team was credited with a championship after a vote in May. Fredette averaged 12.9 points per game for Panathinaikos.
