John Wall plans to finish college while out with injury

John Wall

John Wall’s torn Achilles’ tendon may be devastating to his basketball career and the trajectory of the Washington Wizards, but he’s at least trying to make something good of the situation.

The Wizards announced on Tuesday that Wall tore his Achilles and would be undergoing surgery that would take him out for 12 months — knocking him out for the most part of next season as well. He spoke with the media before the Wizards’ home game on Friday against the Cavaliers.

One cool item Wall said was that he was planning to use the time off from the injury to finish college, according to what The Athletic’s Fred Katz shared.

That’s impressive. Wall only attended Kentucky for one year before leaving for the NBA Draft, where he became the No. 1 pick by the Wizards in 2010. That means he’s been doing plenty of schooling in the years between — not easy for a professional athlete.
