Much of the speculation surrounding Howard is because of his ties to LeBron James, who played with and under Howard in Miami. The two get along well, and if the Lakers make a coaching change, it’s a safe bet that the newcomer is going to have to get along with the franchise player.
The Lakers already have a coach, and he seems to think he’ll still have that job next season. There’s certainly no guarantee of it, though, and the fact that these rumors won’t go away probably isn’t helping.
