Kevin Durant credits ‘basketball gods’ for Nick Young’s game-winner vs. OKC

Nick Young steal

Kevin Durant thinks that Los Angeles Lakers swingman (or perhaps swagman) Nick Young had some help from a greater power on Tuesday night.

Before Durant’s Golden State Warriors faced the Lakers on Wednesday, Durant commented about Young’s game-winner against his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the night before.

“I don’t think he was … stealing the ball,” said Durant, per Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News. “I don’t think he saw Lou Williams behind him and he was trying to run into the open space. It was one of those things where the ball is in front of you and you grab it. That’s what it looked like to me.

“If he was trying to steal it, he would’ve missed the shot,” the former MVP continued. “The basketball gods see that type of stuff. It was a big shot for him and I’m sure it helped a lot with his confidence and the whole team’s confidence. They’ll be ready coming into here tonight.”

If you still have yet to see Young’s pass-interception-turned-shot, which gave the Lakers the 111-109 victory, you can watch it here.

Of course, the argument could be made that Durant himself tested the basketball gods in a big way by signing with the Warriors over the summer, but I digress.
