The Los Angeles Lakers altered the landscape of the NBA when they acquired Luka Doncic over the weekend, and one of their Western Conference rivals might be looking to keep pace ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline.
The Golden State Warriors have looked into the possibility of bringing back Kevin Durant, according to NBA reporter Jake Fischer.
Fischer noted that the “most ambitious idea being tossed around” by Warriors executives is whether there is a way to acquire both Durant and LeBron James. However, there have been no indications that LeBron is willing to waive his no-trade clause. The Lakers would probably be hesitant to trade James to Golden State even if they were willing to move him.

The Warriors have also been linked to Jimmy Butler, who is determined to force a trade from the Miami Heat. Though, there are said to be some roadblocks standing in the way of Golden State potentially acquiring Butler.
Both the Warriors and Phoenix Suns have looked like fringe contenders through the first half of the 2024-25 season. The Suns entered Monday with a 25-23 record, while Golden State is 24-24. Phoenix seems more likely to become a seller ahead of the trade deadline, as another one of their star players has also been at the center of trade rumors.
The 36-year-old Durant is still playing at an elite level this season. He has averaged 26.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. We would say that the odds of Durant returning to Golden State are slim, but nothing should be ruled out after the Lakers landed Doncic out of nowhere.
