It appears that Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon will be proceeding to a fourth year on the job.
All signs continue to point to Gannon returning as Arizona’s head coach for the 2026 NFL season, Cardinals writer Johnny Venerable of PHNX Sports reported on Wednesday. Venerable does note though that changes may be set to happen at offensive coordinator and special teams for the Cardinals.
The 42-year-old Gannon, who previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, took over as head coach of the Cardinals before the 2023 season. However, Gannon has failed to secure a playoff berth or even a single winning season during his three years in charge, going an ugly 15-35 (.300) overall.
This year has also been particularly disastrous for Arizona. They are 3-13 heading into the final week of the season, which is tied for the second-worst record in the NFL. The Cardinals have been especially rough on the defensive side of the ball as well, allowing 355.4 yards per game (26th in the league) and 28.2 points per game (29th).
The optics on Gannon in particular have not been too great this season either. Gannon had to apologize after a fiery outburst at a Cardinals player earlier this year and has also turned heads with his bizarre press conference moments.
That said, it sounds like Gannon still has a bit longer of a runway to work with in Arizona. The same might not be true however of Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, who is now only expected to return to the team under one narrow circumstance.
