Kevin Garnett: Anthony Davis trade demand was ‘a bit unprofessional’

Kevin Garnett

Kevin Garnett was not a fan of the way Anthony Davis and his agent went about their trade demand.

Garnett was on TNT during Saturday night’s All-Star festivities in Charlotte and talked about the Davis matter. He said their handling of the situation was “a bit unprofessional.”

“I don’t like the way the process came out. I don’t like the fact that the agents are dictating the whole movement of this … this was a bit unprofessional, to be honest,” Garnett said.

He then pointed out the repercussions of the demand.

“To call for a trade that you know probably couldn’t get in the long run not only caused hiccups in your own program — think about the Lakers and the hiccups that it caused over there … you have to be careful how you do things, and that includes business.”

Numerous members of the Los Angeles Lakers were mentioned in the trade talks, and they seemed to respond negatively to the team’s willingness to deal them. Davis’ actions also created a completely awkward situation for the Pelicans, who are now unsure how to handle the big man moving forward.

The trade demand would have been best left for the offseason when the trade market for Davis was greater. Trades of players go down best when both sides are cooperating. In this case, the Pelicans were not a willing party, which is the miscalculation agent Rich Paul made.
