Report: Kings unlikely to attract high profile coaching candidates
Big name coaches reportedly do not want the Sacramento Kings job.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical, the Kings are unlikely to find success pursuing a top coach, with all three of Jeff Van Gundy, Tom Thibodeau, and Scott Brooks all said to be uninterested in the position.
Instead, the Kings will have to settle for a secondary pool of assistants and retreads. According to Wojnarowski, this group includes Vinny Del Negro, David Blatt, Jeff Hornacek, and a pair of assistant coaches in Boston’s Jay Larranaga and Atlanta’s Kenny Atkinson.
The fact is, Sacramento is about as unappealing of a job as you’ll see in the NBA. They have a meddling owner, a deeply confusing front office, and the best player on the team has a reputation for being difficult to coach. They are famous for their instability. Sure, someone will be interested, but it’s probably the worst situation that will open up this offseason and will likely be filled by someone who simply can’t afford to wait for something better to come along.
