Kyrie Irving connects with Zion Williamson over Duke brotherhood

Zion Williamson

When top 2018 college basketball recruit Zion Williamson committed to Duke on Saturday night, the high schooler cited the “Duke brotherhood” as a big reason for his decision. That’s something Kyrie Irving appreciated.

The Boston Celtics point guard spent one season at Duke before leaving for the 2011 NBA draft, where he became the No. 1 overall pick. He was asked on Sunday about Williamson’s commitment and was glowing about it.

“Another one. That’s all I’ve got to say. One, two and three. That’s what we do, baby. The [Duke] brotherhood. … It’s just awesome to hear that when Zion was speaking he spoke on the Duke brotherhood because it’s a strong bond that we all have. And connected for life,” Irving said in a video shared by ESPN’s Chris Forsberg.

Irving was pleased that Duke is securing commitments from top players and says it’s now up to Coach K to develop the players and make it all work. With the commitment of Williamson, the Blue Devils now have the top three players in the 2018 class.
