The Los Angeles Lakers have money to spend, and they’ve identified one of their primary targets.
According to Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, the Lakers intend to “aggressively pursue” center Hassan Whiteside in free agency.
Whiteside is viewed as the rim protector and double-double threat that the Lakers would want, and it sounds like they’ll be pushing hard for a visit with the player.
The Lakers aren’t the only team that want the big man. The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly after him, and Golden State is said to be considering him as a fallback option. His old team, the Miami Heat, also want him back, a feeling that is mutual – although they cannot go over the salary cap to sign him.
