LaVar Ball did not get his sons’ high school basketball coach fired, at least according to him.
Ball had clashed with Chino Hills High School coach Stephan Gilling over the course of the season, and the coach told ESPN he was relieved of his duties as coach after a 30-3 season. Ball, whose sons LaMelo and LiAngelo both played under Gilling at Chino Hills, denied having any role in the firing, despite reports that the two had clashed during the season.
“He’s a really good guy, but I’m just not sure he was experienced enough,” LaVar Ball said, via ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. “But I wasn’t the reason why he’s gone. It was protocol that the job is open every year.”

LaMelo made headlines for his exploits at Chino Hills this season and he and LiAngelo, like oldest brother Lonzo, are slated to head to UCLA. Given LaVar’s demeanor and reported behavior, would it really have been a huge surprise if he’d intervened to get the high school coach fired?
