Report: Markelle Fultz dealing with new injury, wants to leave 76ers
There’s a serious disconnect developing between the Philadelphia 76ers and Markelle Fultz.
The former No. 1 overall pick has a right wrist injury in apparent to a bothersome right shoulder, according to Jared Weiss, Derek Bodner, and Sam Amick of The Athletic. The wrist injury has impacted his ability to shoot and hold the ball during his shot, with some days worse than others. He is set to see a specialist on Monday.
The Sixers, meanwhile, have claimed Fultz isn’t suffering from anything that would preclude him from being medically cleared to play. Perhaps subsequently, according to the report, Fultz would prefer to be moved to a new team in search of a fresh start just over a year after the 76ers selected him first overall.
This situation is quickly growing messy. The Sixers are frustrated with Fultz’s lack of progress and inability to shoot, while it feels like his camp might contend they’re ignoring his legitimate injuries. It’s unclear where they go from here, but the Fultz pick is looking less and less likely to work out for Philadelphia with each passing day.
