Report: Mavericks only told of extortion allegation when acquiring Kristaps Porzingis
The Dallas Mavericks may not have known as much about the rape allegations against Kristaps Porzingis when acquiring him than originally reported.
Two sources told Brad Townsend of SportsDay DFW that the only word that was used on the trade call between the Mavericks and New York Knicks was “extortion,” and rape was never mentioned.
“The word ‘rape’ was never used, only ‘extortion,'” one source said.
It had originally been reported that the Mavericks were made aware of the rape allegation when acquiring Porzingis. This is a major contradiction to that. The difference may only be one word, but there is a huge difference between extortion and rape allegations. This is an interesting wrinkle in the developing story, and it bears watching as we find out more about what both teams knew and when they knew it.
