The Dallas Mavericks were spurned by Hassan Whiteside in free agency in 2016, but now they may be mounting a second push for his services.
Mavs insider Mike Fisher of 247 Sports reported on Saturday that the team could have interest in trading for the disgruntled center if the Miami Heat offer certain “sweeteners” in the deal.
Whiteside, who averaged 14.0 points and 11.7 rebounds per game this season, is clearly frustrated with his role on the Heat. However, he is owed $25.4 million next season and holds a $27.1 million player option for 2019-20.
As for Dallas, they just wrapped up a miserable 24-58 season and are woefully thin at the center spot. However, filling that hole via trade is far from their only option, as they hold the No. 5 overall pick in this year’s big man-heavy draft and are also eyeing some other major names on the free agent market.
