Mychal Thompson: Rockets could be ‘serious threat’ to Warriors
The Houston Rockets have the potential to be the most improved team in the Western Conference whether they acquire Carmelo Anthony or not, but Klay Thompson’s father believes adding Anthony would make the Rockets a “serious threat” to the Golden State Warriors.
In a brief chat with TMZ this week, former No. 1 overall pick Mychal Thompson was asked if he believes the Rockets can dethrone the Dubs. He wouldn’t quite go that far.
“Overtake the Warriors? I don’t think so, but they’ll be a serious threat to the Warriors,” Thompson said. “You add Carmelo Anthony to Chris Paul and James Harden, and you’ve got to take them serious. Anybody can beat anybody, but the Warriors are still the favorites.”
Assuming Paul and Harden can coexist, the Rockets will be one of the better teams in the West even if they don’t add Anthony. Inserting Carmelo into the lineup would give Houston an even more dangerous offense, though it was the other side of the ball that plagued them last season.
Of course, the latest developments regarding Anthony have made it seem like he could be staying in New York. Carmelo has a full no-trade clause and would supposedly only accept a trade to two teams, though the Knicks are said to be working on changing that.
