Nephew of Pistons owner Tom Gores decides to stay in NBA Draft
Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores will officially have a family member in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Bowling Green guard JZ Zaher revealed to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports on Wednesday that he will be staying in this year’s NBA Draft and foregoing his remaining college eligibility. Wednesday marked the NBA Draft Early Entry Withdrawal Deadline, by which prospects who had declared for the draft were required to decide whether to remain in the draft or return to college.
As a sophomore last season at Bowling Green, the 6-foot-0 Zaher averaged 0.7 points and 1.0 rebounds in 4.4 minutes a game over seven appearances. He spent his freshman year at Eastern Michigan, seeing two total minutes played all season and not recording any meaningful statistics. According to Zaher’s online bio, he averaged 4.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.4 assists a game as a senior at Powers Catholic High School in Flint, Mich.
Zaher is also notably the nephew of the Pistons owner Gores. Detroit owns the No. 5 and No. 53 overall picks in this year’s draft. If Zaher ends up with the Pistons, potentially with that latter pick or as an undrafted free agent, he would not be the only famous family member on that team.
