Dallas Mavericks fans are finally getting their wish with general manager Nico Harrison.

The Mavericks made the decision on Tuesday to fire Harrison, according to multiple reports. Harrison had been in his fourth season as the GM in Dallas.

The Mavericks have gotten off to a 3-8 start in their first full season without Luka Doncic. Fans have continued to call for Harrison to be fired, and team owner Patrick Dumont has finally given in to the pressure. There had been numerous reports in recent days that it was only a matter of time before Harrison was dismissed.

Harrison has shouldered the blame for trading Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers last season in a stunning blockbuster move. Dumont was spotted having a conversation with a Lakers fan who was wearing a Doncic jersey during Monday night’s game between Dallas and the Milwaukee Bucks. ESPN’s Shams Charania says Dumont took accountability for the Doncic trade while chatting with the fan. Dumont also said the decision was a mistake.

Dallas has had plenty of bad luck with injuries since trading Doncic, but fans were well past the point of giving Harrison the benefit of the doubt. The Mavericks had even taken some unusual measures to shield Harrison from angry fans.

Harrison was named the GM of the Mavericks prior to the 2021-22 season. The team reached the Western Conference Finals that year, missed the playoffs the following season and then got to the NBA Finals in 2023-24. Dallas missed the postseason last year after trading Doncic.
