Georgetown finally decided to let go of head coach John Thompson III after two straight losing seasons, creating a vacancy at one of the more desirable landing spots in college basketball. A historical power, Georgetown will be looking for a strong coach to fill their job. And Patrick Ewing is a name that’s already come up.
Ewing was a star at Georgetown and won a national championship there. He has been in coaching since 2002, which makes his name a natural one to arise in discussions about the job.
he Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski says Ewing has been more focused on NBA jobs than college ones, though he acknowledges the Georgetown gig is one that could get the former center’s attention.
In past, Charlotte associate HC Patrick Ewing held no interest in NCAA jobs. Perhaps G'town gives him pause, but he's been committed to NBA.

Pat Ewing would've likely been hired as Kings coach if Dave Joerger didn't become available; made strong impression in Memphis process too.

Ewing's son was on JT3's staff, and Patrick's remained close and loyal to Thompson family. He won't pursue job before significant thought.

Ewing has been with the Hornets organization since 2013 and is an associate head coach. Woj says Ewing was close to getting the Sacramento Kings job too, meaning he may not feel like it’s worth leaving the NBA for college if he’s so close to his dream of finally becoming an NBA head coach.
