Pau Gasol’s Brother Is a Draft Prospect

Automatically when I saw the last name Gasol, I was intrigued. Think about it, Gasol isn’t exactly a common back-of-the-jersey stitching, unless it’s the Jones of Spain or something. But Peter Schrager’s mock draft on foxsports.com has Marc Gasol going 22nd overall to the Bobcats — and that’s pretty high. Who knew? Certainly not me, so I feel like it’s time to get to know this guy a bit.

Marc is a 7’1″ 265lb center from Barcelona, playing for some nose itch team named Akasvayu Girona, International. Or something like that. The best case scenario compares Marc to Mehmet Okur (pre-Spurs series I hope), and the worst case has him as a Marc Jackson clone. May God have mercy on his soul. We do know he certainly has some size, in both respects. Reports say that when he came to Memphis to play high school ball he got too chunky too quickly, and it affected his game. I think it’s always better to have meat on dem bones, and 265lbs ain’t bad to me.

So what are the chances the guy’s any good? Judging by his Team Spain FIBA numbers, there isn’t much hope. But he is young, and he does have the bloodlines. But I’m afraid that’s all he has. And personally, I think we already have enough Gasol’s in the NBA. But that’s just me.
